I'm getting a little bored lately and trying to find more things to do, where is the best list for things happening in the city. I use to use cityweekend but it is all butchered now?

You aren't going to find some magical website that has all your event listing needs in one place, so use a combination. SmSh is far and away the best for nightlife events, Shanghaiist is really poor as their three events postings every week are light on content and heavily skewed toward the personal tastes of whoever happens to be doing it that week. You can also try Yahoo events. Here are three more calendars:
Shanghai.talkmagazines.cn/whats-on, urbanatomy.com, enjoyshanghai.com

Wangjianshuo's Blog seems to have very good suggestions for things to do around town. He's combed almost every last corner of Shanghai and surrounding parts in the past few years, and documented it extraordinarily well. Along with pretty darn much every other detail of his daily life.
Hi! Hope you don't mind the self promotion, but we spend some time curating interesting events every week at Shanghaiist. Every Monday, we do a Pencil This In article about things going on from M~Thurs (comes out at around 1pm). Then for Wednesday, we have a Midweek Music Preview (live music shows around Shanghai from Wed ~ Sun). And finally, on Friday we do Weekendist, fun events over the weekend.
Anyhow, if you have a more specific type of event you'd like us to cover or look out for, please say so! We'd love some feedback.

Go do things on the outskirts of town.
Seafood market first.
Then ghost market second.
Then Thames Town.
Alcohol also helps liven up this city.

Shanghailist...i love your site. Great on you to create it.
Ross...yes, i use smartshanghai as well.
For a city that has lot of expats that are looking for things to do, weird no one does a great job of events. When i talk of events...im not talking about all the meal specials all over the city.lol.
No offence, but a turish version of events might not be my turish coffee to check out events. Sorry.

Give my personal web site a chance :)
www.sangayrehberi.com
The only problem is, it's language is Turkish..
But using Chrome's translation feature, you'll be able to understand most of it :)

I was asking myself the same thing yesterday. I use SmartShanghai, but that only provides mainly Nightclub events. Previously, I used Upcoming.org..but that is also incomplete. The Shanghaiist has an events calendar, too.I tend to use the local Expat magazines as a reference - but definitely there is space for some to create a "proper" events happening now site..
